Modes of Paragraph Development

Narration

                The Reproductive Health Bill became a big issue in the Philippines for the past few months. There were those pros and cons. The government and the Catholic Church talked very seriously about this bill. Famous people argue with the President while the church never accepted the RH Bill because they said it was against their teachings. There were several reviews and a lot of rallies. In most places there were debates among those who promote and those who want the bill to be rejected. Today, the news tells us that the palace had already signed it. These people who are against the bill had nothing to do but abide by the new “Reproductive Health” Law.

Process

                A “bill” is introduced when any member of Congress decides to create a new law. Once a bill is introduced in either house, it goes through almost the same process. Each bill is first assigned to a committee for review. The bill is set aside if the committee decides the bill is not worthy. It is sent to the entire house for debate if the committee decides the bill is worthy of further action. If the bill passes, it is sent to the other house. When both agree on a bill, the Speaker of the House and the Vice President sign it before being sent to the President. If the President signs it, the bill now becomes a law.

Description

                Most of the time, when we talk about law, justice is being on its tail. Therefore, justice comes with law. And when we think about justice, we picture things that could actually symbolize it. As a fact, justice is represented by a lady holding a balance on her left hand and a sword on her right hand. If you were to be asked, why do you think this lady symbolizes justice? Well, the lady, the balance and the sword depict different meanings which truly symbolizes justice. This lady, therefore, is an excellent picture depicting justice which comes with law.

Comparison and Contrast

                “What is law? What is food?” I suppose we already know the answers of these questions. But, do we know how they can be similar and how they differ?

                Law is institutionalized. Law is formalized. It is a set of rules with sanctions, and is legalized. I guess it can be a necessity for without it, we should’ve been left behind and underestimated by other nations nowadays. There would be a lot of misunderstandings and we would have a miserable life too. Just imagine if we could do all the bad things we want to do. If we could vandalize everything around us, if we could own anything we want, if we could only steal a diploma and never study anymore, it would be so easy but it will truly cause trouble.

                On the other hand, food is our basic necessity. Without food, we cannot live. Food can be eaten the way we want it to be eaten. There are no rules, there are no limitations. It is not even legalized or formalized. We may plant vegetables in our yard then we will have food; as simple as that. However, producing food takes time and effort.

                Therefore, these two are similar in a way that law and food follow a set of procedures in order to be made or created. A bill undergoes a lot of reviews before it becomes a law. Plants need to undergo a long-time photosynthesis in order to make food. Therefore, they take time and effort to be made. Also, both are our necessities in this life. Both are needed by man to survive.

                However, law and food differ as such law is formalized and legalized unlike food. Food can be eaten without any rules while law is abided by with its several rules to be followed. These two are far alike because law takes sanctions while food doesn’t.

Cause and Effect

                Lots of questions are being raised upon we hear the word “law.” People talk about justice, equality and the like that comes to their minds upon hearing the word “law.” Of course we can never avoid asking questions, most especially if we have many doubts in mind.

                Why do we have laws yet we are living in a democratic country? Why do we need to follow laws and why do they have sanctions? It can be because we can't have civilization without rules, regulations, laws, etc.   The reason for laws and regulations is to change behavior in some way so as to achieve some goals. Give up the goals and you don't need laws, regulations, etc. Sanctions are penalties or other means of enforcement used to provide incentives for obedience with the law, or with rules and regulations. If there would be no sanctions, laws will be more possibly neglected than obeyed by people.

Classification

                In this real life, we cannot resist to classify things. Some creations have their own classifications. Most of the time that I encounter classifications like these, is in Science.

                Law has its classifications, too. According to nature, substantive law is the law that creates, defines and regulates. Procedural law defines that the method or proceedings in the enforcement of the rights and duties defined in substantive law. According to application, public law defines the relationship between the state and the individual while private law defines the relationship between individuals.

Division

                We are in a world made simple. Things herein are surely made simple, too. The world itself was divided into smaller parts. This division of the world became significant to us because it became a lot easier for the government to reach and lead us.

                The world was divided into seven continents. These continents were further divided into several countries. Philippines, being one of the countries in the seven continents of the world, is divided into regions, then into provinces, and so on.

                Like the world, law is also divided into smaller parts for the purposes that each exhibits. The first one is contract law which regulates everything from buying a bus ticket to trading on derivatives markets. Property law defines rights and obligations related to the transfer and title of personal and real property. Trust law applies to assets held for investment and financial security, while tort law allows claims for compensation if a person's rights or property are harmed. If the harm is criminalized in legislation, criminal law offers means by which the state can prosecute the perpetrator. Constitutional law provides a framework for the creation of law, the protection of human rights and the election of political representatives. Administrative law is used to review the decisions of government agencies. Finally, the international law governs affairs between sovereign states in activities ranging from trade to environmental regulation or military action.

                These divisions of law made us understand not only the aspects of law, but also of life. Through these, we are being governed orderly. But, though there are several divisions of it, they make up a single thing called law.

Definition

                Law is the organization of social life in its most stable and precise form. It is a rule of conduct or procedure established by custom, agreement, or authority. It is also the most visible symbol of social solidarity. Law is the body of rules and principles governing the affairs of a community and enforced by a political authority. Law is the word that comes into our mind when we say justice, fairness and equality. It is something done in order even if it has a negative connotation to some.

Argumentation

                What could be the differences if we have laws and if we have no laws? As we can see today, we have an organized community, the government leads us better and of course there is fairness and justice because we have laws. Citizens are afraid to do bad things and actions in our country because there are laws which have sanctions and they might be put into jail. If we have no laws in our country and even in other worlds, there will be no equality among us. There will be a lot of troubles, fights and misunderstandings. There is really a big difference if we have laws and if we don’t have, and therefore law really makes a big difference not only in our country but in the whole world.

Description of a Mechanism

              An assembly line is designed for a sequential organization of workers, tools or machines, and parts. The motion of workers is minimized as possible. All parts or assemblies are handled either by conveyors or motorized vehicles such as forklifts, or gravity, with no manual tracking. Each worker typically performs one simple operation.

              Place the tools and the men in the sequence of the operation so that each component part shall travel the least possible distance while in the process of finishing. Use work slides or some other form of carrier so that when a workman completes his operation, he drops the part always in the same place, which place must be the most convenient place to his hand, and if possible have gravity to carry the part to the next workman for his operation. Use sliding assembling lines by which the parts to be assembled are delivered at the convenient distances.

LAW: A Bane or a Boon?

  Imagine yourself living in a world wherein you can do anything you want to do. You’re free. You’re liberated. Nothing is prohibited. It’s fully democratic. Awesome life, isn’t it? Well, do you think you’re safe? Do you think your life’s already perfect?

  It’s midnight and you’re still out of the house. It’s dawn, and you’re still yelling on the streets holding a beer on your left hand, cigarette on your right hand. I didn’t say you’re like that. I never said you do that. I just wanted you to imagine if you were that teenager who took the wrong path.

  As we see today, a lot of teenagers become rebellious. Was it ever against the law? What if there were no more laws? What scenes could people of today encounter nowadays?

  I am a teenager. I don’t want to be one of them – those unconscious teens who never thought about themselves, who never thought about their future. I am lucky because I know I’m not one of them. I’m far from my family in order to study and not to take bad actions.

  Law starts at home itself. The examples I cited on the previous paragraphs are the negative effects of law. Children cannot accept the law being ordered by their parents. They do not want to follow these. They wanted to ruin their lives. They wanted to live freely. They had a happy life by themselves. They never thought of following the commands of their parents working hard to send them to school and raise them.

  This is the actual situation of the government of today. We are the children. The government’s our parents. Why do we see people rallying on the roads? Why do they raise cardboards, shouting what they want? Can’t they just follow? I’m pretty sure it’s for the betterment of their lives, our lives.

  Laws are orders, they are set of rules, legalized, formalized, and the best but worst for some who do not follow is that these laws have sanctions. If we, human being, have minds, we should know how to follow simple instructions – do not steal, no jaywalking. Well, in a simple classroom situation, you can still notice students copying answers called cheating. The teacher orders them not to cheat but still, they do. I know it’s not against the law. But it is against the school policy. It is against God’s law.

  Making a law, I think, is more difficult than following and abiding by it. Making a law takes a lot of procedures, a lot of reviews, a lot of bills, a lot of rejections. Citizens should know laws are created for better and not for worse. The only part that we should do is to follow.

  I deem in the saying that “A law maybe harsh; but it is the law.” So, I’m taking this opportunity to ask you, is law a bane or a boon?

My Dream, My Future

I dream to become a Certified Public Accountant.  Wait...  I am setting a deadline for it.

Choosing a course is hard.  Much harder when you realize you don't like it, or you don't feel taking it up anymore.  Thankful I am to God, He had given me the right course for me to take up.  Pretty sure I won't be dismayed with my choice.

Being a Certified Public Accountant requires many works.  Paper works done with patience and analysis should be rendered.  I know I'll be experiencing exhausting days and sleepless nights in order to accomplish all works for that day.  So therefore, am I fitted?

Honestly, working is not my passion.  Rather, sleeping, eating and sitting pretty at the corner.  But it is also my dream to change, and I have set a deadline for it.  And it is when I enter College.  I'll be partially independent in order to change and to succeed.

As a pretty or better yet beautiful young lady, I dream of having a happy family.  I never dreamed of growing old alone.  I would love having a kind-hearted, supportive and lovable husband.  Much more if we will be blessed with cute, beautiful/handsome and lovely kids.  They'll be my inspiration in giving my best in my work.

Most of all, thank you God for giving me the chance of dreaming.  Because of this, I have something to achieve in the future.  I believe, these are worth the wait.  These dreams of today will be my future smiles.

Change: It Starts With Me

"If you want to change the world, begin by changing yourself."

"Change is the only permanent thing in this world," as most people say.

"Change is what we need.  Change is now," said Barack Obama.

But changing is not that easy.  We have to undergo situations which would force us to change.  We change for the better, or maybe for worse.

I am still young but I want a change not only in my country but also to the world.  We are experiencing economic crises nowadays.  People are being alarmed because these crises might lead to severe problems in most of the countries.  Honestly, we really need a change.

We buy imported clothes, foods and accessories.  We love buying stateside belongings.  We like owning dollars and euros.  Don't we?

Maybe, we're not fully aware of the disadvantages we get from owning these.  It hurts a lot every time we hear Philippines being belittled.   So if we would change, we would attain greater heights.

Change begins with me.  With you, too.  And with us.  It all starts within ourselves.  As John F. Kennedy said, "Do not ask what your country can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your country instead."

Kannawidan: A Showcase of Culture and Arts

We can stand up and proudly say the words "I am an Ilocano."  For we, Ilocanos, can boast to other places our preserved arts and cultures which are really unbeatable.

It has been a tradition to the Ilocanos to celebrate the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival annually during the first week of February.  This prestigious celebration is being witnessed by enormous tourists giving their best to reach Vigan City, the venue of the said occasion.

As a proud young Ilocana, fifteen years have passed in my life and I believe that Ilocos has really to showcase its  rich Iloco cultural, artistic, historical and intellectual heritage.  For the information of everybody, lots of activities are being done in connection with the Kannawidan Festival.  Some of this activities are the Kannawidan Trade Fair, Miss Saniata, Sarzuela and many others.  There are also intellectual contests which are truly useful in perpetuating Ilocos' hidden treasures.

Many positive impressions are being uttered by many tourists as well as guests who are invited to come and witness the celebration.  This long-week celebration is such a blissful occasion as we witness how rich the Iloco culture is.  Ilocanos could have said, "God is good."

For all these blessings, another year would make big improvements and changes to the economic stability of Ilocos.  The government and the citizens are working hand-in-hand in achieving great heights.

I salute the Ilocanos as I am proud to say that I am one of them!

What Day Was That?

It was a cold, cloudy morning.  I was wearing that green uniform with beret on my head, neckerchief in my neck and white gloves.  I loved my attire, and I had imagined myself walking down the road with other students wearing green, too.

I am a CAT Officer and I am much proud of it.  I am so proud to say that I love joining parades with the other officers because it gives me fame when I hear people talk about how we perform.  My friends say I look beautiful with my fatigue uniform. I look so awesome as I feel it.

That 25th day of January was nice and weird.  What happened?  I must to join the Grand Parade on that day.  I woke up so early for I was very excited!  But I felt quite nervous too.  I thought I have to practice yet so as not to give shame to my school.

Being too early in arriving at school was to be shared with you.  For others, it was a miracle.  I go to school very late most often.  But because I was excited, miracle happened.

After a few minutes, we walked down the street to assemble at the City Hall.  I walked so smart!  I just hope you were there to watch me.  But yes, I really walked like someone walking at the Philippine Military Academy.  They just don't know, my grandmother passed away five days ago.  I had that strange feeling of excitement and loneliness.

"Kriiiing! Kriiiing!" My phone was ringing and it read "Tita Alma."  My aunt was calling and I answered it.  There, she told me to go home immediately because the parade was against our religion.  I did not know what to do but I just cried.  My friends accompanied me to ask permission from Mr. Rabaca for me to go home by that moment of time.  I just did.  But I did cry.

Tell me then... Was that day the feast of Vigan City?  But I was not aware of anything!  For me, that was just a lazy day in bed.  Come on, tell me again!  What day was that?

It's a PROMISE

Third grading period has to vanish now.  Time's really so fast, right?  I can't imagine it.  But I am about to leave high school.  I am getting excited and a little bit nervous.

Yes, third grading period has to go.  And I suppose I do not know what have I done.  Did I do my best?  I guess, I gave what was enough.  I did not give my best, because no one requires me to do that either.  And I do not want my parents to expect beyond my capabilities.

This grading period, I learned to be more sociable.  Honestly, I am not sociable and I hate talking much with people.  I just end up being speechless and being noticed by people being so silent.  I don't know if I don't want to talk to them or I just have nothing to say.  Maybe both?  Anyway, in our TLE Class, I knew the basics about the Microsoft Frontpage.  We made web designs even if what I did were just so simple.  I learned, and I guess I still need improvements.

However, I still encountered problems like attending activities outside the school.  I went at Pangasinan for the Regional Schools Press Conference and before we went there, we still had a Writeshop.  So I wasn't able to attend my classes for almost two weeks.  That was a big loss for me but I did my best to do better when classes resumed last January 3.

Moving on, I will do my best in reviewing for the upcoming examinations.  I have to be more industrious in reviewing to have higher scores, receive higher grades and attain higher rank of course.  These, I know, are the goals I will achieve.  I promise.

New Year, New Me

"Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be."  I used to sing this lovely song when I was still a child.  Now that I am grown up, I realized that this shouldn't be the principle of anyone else.

For the past years, I would just leave my destiny.  I believed that destiny is by chance and not by choice.  I do not make plans.  I do not know but I didn't care. That was me.  And now, I want a better me.

I became worse in my studies.  My rank went lower because I guess I was so lazy then.  I was lazy in reviewing and doing projects.  But I regret.  I regret not doing good in my studies.  This year, I hope I will be doing better now.

If last year, I never really had plans for my College life, I would now decide what course will I take and where would I take it.  I already made up my mind to take BS Accountancy at New Era University, Diliman, Quezon City.  I just have known that I did not pass the UPCAT so I have to do my best in order to past the NEU-CET.

I am now a Senior student and is getting ready the portals of my beloved Alma Mater.  I could now say that I am ready to face College and I am expecting big changes upon stepping onto the higher ladder of education.  Honestly, I am so excited now.

I thank God for giving me one more year in sharing my life to my family and my friends.  I hope I could be better to them so that they'd know how much I treasure them before I leave my school.  And after all my future years of hardships, my friends and I would be meeting for more than once again and be proud to having been graduated as someone successful.

I do have many goals, not just dreams.  This year, I hope I could attain these goals now.  I am so thankful for this new year and for the gift of life.  I am so lucky, I know, because I still have this new year to make my life better.

Christmas: Its Real Essence

I've been in this world for fifteen years already.  But for all those years, I never did celebrate Christmas -- the occasion which is best celebrated in the world.  Everyone unites like married couples.  Is it not ironic?

I was born as a member of the Church of Christ or Iglesia Ni Cristo as called in the Philippines.  My parents grew me up as an active member of the church.  Also, they taught me to keep my faith in Him and keep worshiping the one and only Lord God.

As I grow up, I observe that every December 25, people are extremely happy.  I observed that they are much excited when December arrives.  And as if they are the birthday celebrants on that day.  I do not also know where they have known Santa Claus.  Aren't they foolish of it?

They say it is the birthdate of Jesus Christ?  So what verse in the Bible could I see that sentence stating that December 25 is Jesus' birthday?  In our church, never in my whole life have I ever heard from our ministers that December 25 has to do with Jesus' life nor have I read it on the Bible.  That was too weird, I think people are mistaken.

Until now, I want to frank people that there is no Christmas.  But I am afraid that they might just bully me.  Christmas began from the Pagans and there's no sense of fooling people around.  And if they want to celebrate it, well do it by bringing up its real essence -- the spirit of loving and giving.  It's not just enough to celebrate like doing family reunions or whatever that can please somebody else.  It is not also nice to celebrate anything without any reference.  It's just a waste of time and money.

Although I do not believe the Christmas, I believe its real essence.  Because for what I see, people do good when Christmas arrives.  I am thankful that even if I do not belong to them when they celebrate that day, they never do things that are against my religion.  And that is the real essence of it.  Loving, giving.  And respecting.
